In partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and funded by First 5 LA, YWCA San Gabriel Valley has begun a new project to prevent and reduce childhood obesity in the communities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Citrus, La Puente, Pomona, Valinda, Vincent, West Covina, West Puente Valley. The program will focus on promoting healthy eating and increased physical activity for children ages 0-5 and their families. The Choose Health LA Kids program will include: 
 

•  A parent collaborative to advocate for healthier policies.

•  Grocery store tours to educate parents about healthy food options.

•  Food demonstrations to provide healthy cooking options.

•  Parent education workshops to provide parenting and nutrition tips for children ages 0-5.

• Restaurant program outreach to inform owners about the Choose 

• Health LA Restaurants program and encourage participation. The Choose Health LA Restaurants program will engage local restaurants to offer healthier options and smaller portions for children on their menus.
